Publishing your paper as an AIB
- Starting with 2001, all AIBs will usually be published
electronically. If necessary, every author can produce copies of his
electronic paper.
- Write your paper following the AIB style guidelines
(Example PostScript-file). For LaTeX users,
we provide the class aib which
simplifies the production of AIBs. You will also need Springer's
llncs.cls.
An example for using aib.cls can be
found here.
The class aib.cls automatically produces
a titlepage. It furthermore requires the following graphics (either in EPS
or PDF format, either B/W or colored): rwth.eps,
aachen.eps, rwth_blue.eps,
aachen_blue.eps, rwth.pdf,
aachen.pdf, rwth_blue.pdf,
aachen_blue.pdf.
- Include the list of available reports. There are two options:
- Consult your supervisor for checking the final version of your report.
- Consult me to obtain your AIB number.
- Include the AIB number in your document to obtain your final PostScript file.
- Write an BibTeX-entry for your technical report. An example can be found here. Please include keywords.
- Send your PostScript file, the abstract and your BibTeX-file to me.
- If possible, please send a PDF version as well. For best results, use PostScript fonts instead of generating bitmap fonts. You should set
type1_default=true in texmf/dvips/config/updmap and/or have the following options in your ~/.dvipsrc:
p +psfonts.cmz
p +psfonts.amz
If your report is conforming to the style guidelines, it will now be
integrated into these web pages. Furthermore, the report will be
announced via the
AIB mailing
list and in the newsgroup
comp.doc.techreports.
Additional remarks for PhD candidates
- Promotionsordnung des FB1, in case you want to publish your dissertation at RWTH Aachen electronically
- In case you wish to publish your PhD thesis as an AIB, you can adapt and
compile the file frontpage.tex to generate a pdf titlepage.
You can then include this PDF file in the LaTeX sources of your PhD thesis following
this template. The advantage of this approach is
that you then do not need to use the
\documentclass{aib}, which is more suitable for
shorter technical reports (and even for these, sometimes a different documentclass may be more suitable).
- Before you print the official final version of your PhD thesis for RWTH Aachen University library,
please also check with the library
that the formal requirements are met.
Further remarks
- In case you experience problems with the LaTeX output for non-ASCII
characters like ä, é, ß (e.g., when including
the
.tex version of the list of available AIBs at
the end of your report), try writing
\usepackage[latin1]{inputenc}.
However, it is not advisable to use
\usepackage[T1]{fontenc} for this purpose.
- Sometimes one also produces a report as a PDF file in the first place. In order to generate a PostScript version from this, one can achieve good results by viewing the PDF file using Adobe Reader and then simply printing it into a corresponding PostScript file (on Linux e.g. using kprinter, which ships with KDE).
- "dvi2aib" is a simple script which might be employed for printing your report as a booklet.
